My fav and go-to Chinese bbq place in town. The lamb screwers are fresh and full of charcoal aroma. The northern Chinese style fry dishes are also really good. Don't be confused by the name "xinjiang bbq". I think it's rather northern China flavor. Highly recommend.

Best traditional skewers in Chinatown. Super fast and friendly service, even on a busy Saturday night. Even though the restaurant is small but was a homely vibe to enjoy dinner with family or friends. We waited like 20 minutes for a table but the food was worth it. All the skewers we ordered were evenly covered in the seasoning. The cumin tasted more fragrant than spicy and overpowering. Highly recommend the lamb, chicken gizzards, gluten flour, sirloin steak, and sausage skewers (basically everything we ordered because they were all so good)! The sausage brought me back childhood memories, they are exactly the same as what I loved to snack on as a kid back in China. The cucumber salad is very refreshing to cleanse your palette during the meal too. A tip to make it balance out the saltiness of it is to add some vinegar. I would definitely come back again!

I come here to enjoy skewers and from time to time the other chinese foods they offer. I haven't had bad service here since the first time I came in 2019 and the restaurant has since been renovated also because it use to be super small and cramped but now they've opened up the space for more seating. Service is not bad and we get our food in a timely manner. It's great to have small groups but this place is not made for large groups due to the tables are smaller for 4 people.

We came on a Saturday around 730pm and it was pretty packed. There was one spot in the corner for two that faced a wall. We were pointed to this spot and despite thinking we might be forgotten, service was smooth and friendly. We started with some beef, tendon, lamb, and squid skewers and added a big plate chicken. The flavor on the skewers is phenomenal with cumin, pepper and other spices. Tender and juicy meat cooked to perfection. The chicken was flavorful and the potatoes and noodles were savory and packed with herbs. The star anise and full peppercorns along with bay leaves and other spices made the entire dish very good and intense with flavor. Depending on your range of tolerable spice it could be considered mild to medium spicy. Service was excellent with water refreshed often and food coming quickly. Took a bit for the order to be taken but it was also a packed house. Lots of people ordered containers of beer to share at the table but we opted not to. Definitely would love to come again and have more skewers! Price-wise you can buy them by the stick or by 10 or so for a lower price.

Xin Jiang BBQ has an extensive menu with many options for different kinds of BBQ skewers. The smashed cucumber with garlic sauce was a nice starter but was a little bland. The chicken skewers (not pictured) were delicious - slow cooked over a charcoal grill, very juicy, and flavorful. The lamb and shrimp skewers were also very good, although I likely wouldn't order the shrimp again as it was messy when removing the shells. The Chinese chives were over-cooked and over-seasoned; I wouldn't order this again. The best dish was the stir fried noodles with pork and sliced peppers; I would order this over and over again! The ambiance was nice but the place was packed and clearly understaffed. Our server did a good job, but she did not have time to assist us beyond what was absolutely necessary. Overall, I would definitely go back to Xin Jiang BBQ!

My husband and I have been looking for a good Chinese BBQ/skewer, and stumbled upon this establishment after some Google search. We were initially very attracted to their $3/bottle beer deals, but it seemed like that was a temporary promotion as we were charged more than that. Regardless, their skewers were delicious and we were very satisfied with everything we got! We ordered: o. Marinated lamb skewer o. Beef tendon skewer o. Chicken gizzard skewer o. Half shell scallop with vermicelli & Thai chili garlic sauce o. Enoki mushroom My favorites were the marinated lamb skewers and the chicken gizzard skewers, but my husband absolutely loved every single thing we ordered. The only downside was that the skewers became cold super quickly, as they cooked everything in the back kitchen and there wasn't any structure fires at any tables for us to either cook or heat up our food.

I'm not sure why it took me several decades to come here, but I'm glad I finally did. This is a classic Chinese meat skewer restaurant with additional spicy "Sichuan" style food dishes to order from and plenty of beer options including beer towers. My friends and I ordered an assortment of their skewers, and they were really delicious! The meat was tender, juicy, and super flavorful. My favorite was probably the beef or lamb, which was surprising because I typically don't like lamb. However, the way they season the meat makes it really satisfying. We also got mushroom skewers, a vegetable dish. and enokis which really rounded out our meal! Will be adding this into my rotation of restaurants to go to now, and it's definitely more unique than other typical Chinese restaurants in Chinatown.

This place is a must if you're visiting Chinatown in Houston! First off, cheapest beers! Second, so many skewer options cooked to order and perfection! I know how busy this place gets on weeknights and opted to go early on a Sunday after they opened up at noon. Keep it mind during peak hours the skewers take a bit longer as they are cooked to order. It's been years since I've been here and they've renovated the interior. Looks much better. Now the bathroom, that's a different story lol. The Food: Big Plate Chicken- A signature dish and I like how they present it now. Fits the name. It use to come in a basic white bowl and the chicken "stew" was separate. Now it's all plated together. Skewers- We got a variety. All decent. Tendon was a lil chewy. I personally like the squid tentacles and enoki mushrooms. Cucumbers- I like this basic dish to balance and cleanse my palate. The servers were a bit older but they were pleasant and since it's slow it wasn't overwhelming for them. My go to place for Chinese BBQ.
